This dissertation deals with the application of deep learning in histology
for tumor classification using semi-automatically annotated data. In the
first part of the thesis, we discuss the histological images themselves and the
possibility of automatically generating annotations from pairs of histological
sections with different staining, where the first section receives an annotation
based on a feature shown in the second section of the same tissue. Using
optimization methods and automatic image analysis methods, we attempt
to first register the tissue on the scans and then quantify the proliferation
biomarker Ki67. In the second part, we discuss the application of deep neural
networks to the dataset annotated by our proposed method to classify the
hematoxylin-eosin scans according to the intensity of Ki67 expression in the
tissue.
Keywords: neural networks, classification, hematoxylin-eosin, digital
